Movie Monthly – July Edition

Alongside my love of reading, I am also a fan of films. Before COVID I had an Unlimited Card to my local Cineworld that I was trying to make good use of. Since COVID, I have not been doing great at watching films, despite access to plenty of online streaming services. But here is a wrap up of the 5 films I did watch this week.

Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga

Rating: 3 out of 5.

If you are from Europe, you will almost definitely have seen Eurovision at some point and settled in the love it or loathe it camp. I adore the campness of Eurovision, and whilst this isn’t a groundbreaking film, it gave me some good chuckles. PLAY JAJA DING DONG!

Ready or Not

Rating: 3.5 out of 5.

My only rewatch of the month! Gore and horror are generally not my thing. But I think that this film manages to bring in a level of comedy with the hide and seek based plot. It also manages to twist a trope in the same vein as Cabin In The Woods. Adam Brody was fantastic too. (Beware, there is gore).

Hamilton

Rating: 3 out of 5.

I couldn’t have Disney+ and not watch this when it became available. For me, this was perhaps a little long, and I struggled to tell where one song ended and the next began (because they basically never talk in the whole 2-3 hour spectacle). I did learn some American history though, so always a positive.

Searching

Rating: 3.5 out of 5.

Really interesting film told entirely through a computer screen, but without being fully webcam based. Really interesting mystery that kept me interested in where it was going next. Admittedly the conclusion was a bit OTT in some ways (no spoilers), but worth it for some great acting.

Cadet Kelly

Rating: 2 out of 5.

I didn’t have Disney channel growing up, so missed out on a number of these Disney original films. But with Disney+ I felt like giving this a go. Did I love it? No, but it managed to take up a bit of time one afternoon, and I can see how my younger self may have liked this quite a bit more than my 27 year old.

What films have you watched this month? And do you have any recommendations for August?
